Unsupported Authoring Tools

For packaged content that was authored by a tool not included in the above list, Generator will attempt to parse the course using fallback methods. In the event that Generator is unable to parse any text from your learning content, import jobs will fail with the error: "No text was detected". If the quality of Generator’s import and parsing of the learning content isn’t satisfactory, or if you have content from an authoring tool not listed above, please reach out to our Delight Team and let us know more about your content library. We are always looking to expand Rustici Generator’s content support.

Dispatched Content

At this time, Generator does not support the majority of dispatched/proxy packages, or courses that rely on remotely hosted course files. Because the learning content of these packages primarily exists on external servers, the files inside the ZIP package are not very meaningful by themselves, and that means Generator is not able to extract the text of the course. To avoid these situations, Generator will attempt to identify this kind of content during the import process.

If a course is not recognized as a supported authoring tool, Generator will check if it is a potential dispatch package in two ways:

  1. It will look for specific strings in certain files that indicate a package came from a specific known vendor of this kind of content
  2. The application will add up the total size of the package’s uncompressed contents and check if the total size is less than 100 KB (by default, configurable with the setting IMPORT__REMOTELY_HOSTED_ELEARNING_SIZE_THRESHOLD_KB)

When an imported package matches one of those conditions, then Generator will reject the import, failing the job with the error message Content determined to be a remote proxy or dispatch package. Generator is unable to support these packages.

If you notice that a dispatch/proxy package is being imported into Generator successfully, without the job failing, then you have a couple of options. You may want to check the value of IMPORT__REMOTELY_HOSTED_ELEARNING_SIZE_THRESHOLD_KB to ensure that it is large enough to identify your content. Alternatively, you can always reach out to Rustici support with an example of the content you’re importing. We’d be happy to look at the package and update Generator such that it can identify and avoid importing this type of content in the future.

Content Integrity

Generator aims to be flexible and work around the variance that can occur between elearning packages, even between packages from the same authoring tool. However, we make no guarantees for packaged content with corrupted or missing data. If your packaged content won’t launch in a browser or content player, Generator may not be able to parse text from that course, and import jobs may fail with the error: "File was recognized as {content_type} content, but Generator could not find any text in the package."
